Woodside nonprofit is looking to make graduation season easier on parents and students when it hosts a Prom Pop-Up Shop on April 21.

Woodside on the Move, an organization that runs community programs and advocates for tenants rights, will host the event at P.S. 361 at 39-07 57th St. Another organization, We Give Because We Care 365 Days, will help provide clothing and accessories.

According to Adriana Beltran, the executive director of Woodside on the Move, the items will be completely free and available for eighth-graders and 12th-graders who are attending prom this year.

“We noticed that this time of year is very hard nowadays for parents to cover the expenses of graduation and everything involved [with it] so [we’re trying to] to help to alleviate that,” she said.

In addition to suits and dresses, the pop-up shop will include ties, belts, hair accessories, purses, makeup, barber services, music and entertainment and food.

We Give Because We Care 365 Days has hosted these events for the past three years and has served more than 500 students in New York City and Westchester County.

Beltran said community residents can also donate dresses, suits and other accessories directly to Woodside on the Move by visiting their office at 39-42 59th St. Beltran said if the event is successful, the organization will look to make this an annual event.

“Every program, every activity that we do during the year is for the benefit of the community,” Beltran said. “We always ask people to support us, to be there.”
