Police have arrested a man who they say fatally shot another man at a baby shower in Jamaica last month.

Lhonsi Colot, 33, was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.

According to police, at 10:50 p.m. on Nov. 3 officers from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a person shot at a home on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard. Upon their arrival, police learned that the victim, identified as 22-year-old Tymel West, had been shot multiple times in the torso.

By the time the police had arrived, West had been taken by private means to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

West and his family were having a baby shower at the home when the shots were fired.

Following an ongoing investigation, police arrested Colot on Dec. 17. Reports say that Colot and West could have gotten into an argument at the baby shower that escalated to the shooting.

Colot was arraigned before the Queens Criminal Court and has been remanded to custody. He is due to return to court on Jan. 3, 2019.

If convicted, Colot faces 25 years to life in prison.

“A young man’s life was cut short as a result of a senseless dispute that ended in gun violence. The defendant is alleged to have committed a cold-blooded murder on a residential street in Jamaica, Queens. He now faces a lengthy term of incarceration.” said District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
