Cyclists using the Queens Boulevard bike lanes will find a safe place to store their bikes should the want to stop and shop at the malls in Elmhurst.

Oonee, a Brooklyn-based startup, partnered with Madison International Realty to bring its innovative cycle parking and service pods to the Queens Place mall, just northwest of the larger Queens Center mall.

Oonee is a smart, modular bike pod that can be custom-built to meet the needs of both cyclists and pedestrians in varied environments. The installation will feature accommodation for 20 bicycles and three scooters at a time, as well as a green roof and seating options.

Members of the public can gain access to the units for as little as $4.99 per month of $1 per day.

“The tremendous growth of cycling in New York demands improved infrastructure for secure parking,” Oonee founder and CEO Shabazz Stuart said. “We hope the addition of this crucial utility will lead to an improved transportation experience for the entire community. We look forward to continuing to expand the network throughout the five boroughs.”

Other Oonsee bike pods have been located at Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal and Lower Manhattan’s Water-Whitehall Plaza. Madison International Realty has acquired a total of 12 properties across the five borough for future pod locations.

“We are pleased to partner with Oonee and are targeting a wide variety of amenities for our retail properties throughout the boroughs, especially the signature Atlantic Center,” Madison International Realty Portfolio Manager Evan Wake said. “We are looking to offer the best in innovative retail for a distinct visitor experience.”

Cyclists can register online at www.ooneepod.com, with the first month free and monthly membership at just $4.99 per month. Oonee also offers day passes for $1.
