Ahead of the National Night Out Against Crime, officers from the 104th Precinct and the NYPD Auxiliary Police came together to host a movie night right outside the precinct’s doors in Ridgewood, on Wednesday, July 19.

About 40 of the Precinct’s neighbors and Ridgewood residents attended the special event around 8 p.m. at 6402 Catalpa Ave. and were treated to popcorn, cotton candy and beverages before the showing of the Disney movie “Monsters, Inc.” The stretch of road along Catalpa Avenue was closed, allowing local moviegoers to sit outside comfortably and enjoy the film outdoors.

“It was a team effort,” said Community Affairs Officer Dilsia Bonilla. “So we noticed that close to our precinct, there aren’t many community events that were held. We figured, between us the auxiliary, and the 104th Precinct Club, a group of cops that run events for us as members of the 104th, that we would do something nice to give back to our local community.”

Bonilla said Community Affairs and the 104th Precinct will host more community-based events in the next upcoming weeks.

The next big event for the precinct — and law enforcement as a whole — is the National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, Aug. 1. The 104th Precinct will host its annual event at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village, where public safety info, food, games, dance performances and music will be provided.
