After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023, Rite Aid has since closed more than 200 locations across the United States. This filing stems from the fact that the pharmacy company has been reporting annual losses for several years. One big factor into these losses is the financial losses from lawsuits related to opioid prescriptions, contributing to the country’s opioid epidemic. Additionally, the company is struggling with significant debt and falling sales, which have worsened its financial problems.

In addition to these Queens locations, another three New York City Rite Aids, as well as four more on Long Island were among the 53 stores reported this month to be shutting down. Those elsewhere in New York City include the Rite Aids at 592 E. 183rd St. in the Bronx, 960 Halsey St. in Brooklyn and 2271 Richmond Ave. in Staten Island.

The Long Island locations that will soon close are at 1825 Brentwood Rd. in Brentwood, 1910 Hempstead Tpke. in East Meadow, 283 W. Jericho Tpke. in Huntington Station and 139 Ronkonkoma Ave. in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Timetables have not yet been provided as to when exactly these 53 stores will be closing, according to court filings. Customers who may be impacted by these closures and in need of another Rite Aid location can search for the nearest ones here.
