Free women’s health services are coming to Fresh Meadows. Council Member James F. Gennaro (D-24) is hosting a mammogram event on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Gennaro is partnering with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) to bring no-cost mammograms to the district.

A mammogram bus will be available at his office, located at 180-32 Union Tpke., from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eligible recipients must schedule a mammogram prior to the event by calling (718)-217-4969 or (877)-628-9090. To be eligible for the free service, women must be between the ages of 45-75, currently live in New York City and not have had a mammogram in the past 12 months. Additionally, uninsured patients are welcome, no copayments are required and deductibles are waived.

Gennaro urged eligible constituents to take advantage of the no-cost screening event.

“As many as one in eight women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime,” Gennaro said in a statement. “I am proud to partner with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to bring free breast cancer screenings to our district. This partnership has the  potential to help save lives via early detection methods.”

Christina Aibino, Executive Director at the American-Italian Cancer Foundation, said the organization is grateful for the council member’s support. Aibino said the AICF looks forward to seeing residents at the end of October.
