An optical illusionist is set to captivate audiences in Queens this November.
Vitaly will bring his renowned show, VITALY: An Evening of Wonders, to Queens Theatre at 14 United Nations Ave. South, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, with two exclusive performances on Nov. 23 and 24.
Previously, this master illusionist headlined a 16-week off-Broadway run in Times Square, drawing fans from all over New York City.
In an interview with QNS, Vitaly offered a glimpse of what audiences can expect from his return to New York City. “They can expect to see paintings coming to life, photographs, drawings come out of a page,” he said. “There’ll be sculptures, things with ordinary objects that become art, and really, things that people have never seen before… a paintbrush will paint by itself, a sculpture will mysteriously appear, and their thoughts will materialize.”
Vitaly shared that his lifelong passion for art is woven into his work. “My parents exposed me early on to various paintings and pictures of famous sculptors and painters. Also, I accidentally stumbled upon a Bob Ross show,” he said. “I thought, hey, that looks easy, give me some paint. And so, next thing you know, my house was filled with happy accidents.”
His love for painting now infuses his performances, where his art interacts directly with his audience.
“And so my ideas have always been that I wanted to bring things, such as art, to life. I wanted to bring the painting outside of the picture. I wanted to sculpt while being blindfolded. I wanted to do all kinds of crazy things and interact with the artistic world, blurring the lines between what is inside the frame and what is outside the frame,” he said.
