Two sisters opened a new establishment in Kew Gardens, honoring their Indian roots.
Sisters, Krutika and Pragati Khatri, achieved their ‘family dream’ last month after opening Nabhya Indian Restaurant and Bar located at 120-85 83rd Ave.
The new restaurant replaces Eternity, a ‘modern Indian’ eatery that opened in 2021 and closed this year.
The Khatri sisters say the neighborhood lacked ‘authentic North Indian flavor,’ and their family had dreamed of opening a restaurant.
“We decided that we were going to implement a new menu that is very different to just the basic chicken tikka masala and butter chicken staples,” Krutika remarked.
The process that led to Nabhya’s grand opening was ‘relatively quick’ as they finalized a deal with Eternity on Nov. 15, and the following day the turnover was complete.
While they are currently focusing on settling into the new location, Nabhya plans to give back to their community once the New Year hits.
“We just learned about Homestead Senior Living facility near us, so we plan to reach out to them eventually in a couple of months, once we’re a lot more settled in, to start doing some community engagement,” explained Krutika.
The restaurant is committed to serving dishes with ‘rich flavors and impeccable presentation.’ It advertises a wide range of Indian cuisine, from traditional curries to Indo-Chinese dishes and fragrant biryanis.
“We welcome everybody to come and give us a try. We’re completely different from the prior ownership. I know they had some mixed reviews, but we’re trying to bring Indian food back to Kew Gardens in a new light,” added Krutika.
Despite only being open for two weeks, Nabhya is already receiving positive reviews on Google. One five-star review stated, “Amazing authentic Indian food! The staff was super nice and attentive. Definitely worth checking out. I will be coming back again soon!”
“Awesome food!! Finally, an Indian menu that is authentic, full of flavor and spiced just right. I tried and loved the delectable Kathi rolls and the perfectly crisp samosas. I look forward to trying every vegetarian item on the m,enu. The restaurant staff is friendly and warm. The place is elegant, clean and spacious. It was a wonderful dining experience! Thank you guys for coming to Kew Gardens,” commented another happy customer.
Other reviews highlighted the hospitality of the staff, along with the ‘talented chef,’ and the food’s authenticity.
The Khatri sisters say they are committed to bringing a fresh taste to the community. Nabhya is open between noon and 10 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and closes an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays.
