The New York Lottery announced on Saturday, Dec. 28, that a top-prize winning ticket for the Take 5 Midday draw on Dec. 27 was sold in Ridgewood.
The winning ticket – worth $21,063.00 – was sold at Stop & Shop #0508, 64-66 Myrtle Ave. The numbers are drawn from a field of one through 39, with the drawing televised twice daily at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The prize may be claimed up to one year from the drawing date.
The Take 5 jackpot prize is divided equally among multiple winners and is valued at $57,575.70. To win the jackpot, players must match all five numbers on their ticket to the five in the draw. The odds of winning this are one in 575,757.
For each Take 5 draw, 50% of sales is allocated as the prize money. 20% of this goes to the jackpot, 30% to the second prize, and the remaining 50% to the third. The second prize is won by matching four numbers and is worth $508.02. The odds are one in 3,386.
Matching three numbers wins the third prize, worth $25.66. The odds are one in 102. Finally, matching two numbers earns players the fourth prize, a Quick Pick Free Play, at the odds of one in 9.
There was only one jackpot winner on Dec. 27, with 59 players claiming the second prize, 2,475 getting the third, and 26,718 winning a Free Play with the fourth. The winning numbers were 1, 17, 26, 31, and 36.
The New York Lottery, initiated in 1967, is the state-operated lottery system in New York. It operates under the New York State Gaming Commission, contributes funds for public education, and is headquartered in Schenectady.
It is North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.8 billion in Lottery Aid to Education for FY2023-2024 to help support education in New York.
Its revenue is distributed to local school districts using the same statutory formula to distribute other state aid to education. The formula takes into account a school district’s size and income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
