Summer might be coming to an end but there are still a few outdoor events to enjoy in Douglaston.
The Douglaston Local Development Corporation (DLDC) is calling all pet owners to the Douglaston Station Plaza for Pets in the Plaza, an event for animal lovers to shop and play on Saturday, Aug. 15.
The event has no admission charge and will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m at 235th Street and 41st Avenue.
Participants will be crossing their fingers in hopes of being a lucky winner in raffles and prize give-aways, and attendees will also be encouraged to give back to the community by bringing unused and gently used pet supplies to the DLDC information booth to donate and exchange. Canine and feline enthusiasts alike will also be able to enjoy crafts and activities for kids and peruse the wares of on-site dog trainers, vendors selling food, refreshments, healthy pet food and pet services.
The crown jewel of the event is sure to be the best-dressed pet show at 12 p.m. Participants can register with their stylish pets before the show.
Following its Pets in the Plaza event, on Friday, Aug. 21 the DLDC will also be screening cult classic “Ghostbusters” for the first night of its Plaza Movie Series at the Douglaston Station Plaza.
The event — which is presented by the DLDC with S.G. Custom Sound—will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the movie is slated for 8 p.m. Raffles and door prizes will be given away, and food and refreshments will be available for purchase.
The Aug. 21 “Ghostbusters” screening is the first of three planned dates for the movie series. The following screenings are planned for Sept. 11 and Oct. 2. The movies to be shown on those dates have yet to be announced.
For more information on either of these events, call the DLDC at (718) 279-4800 or email contact@dougldc.org.
