GingerBread Lane, the 1.5-ton, 450-square-foot village made of gingerbread, is undergoing a makeover at its home in the New York Hall of Science.
More New York City icons, such as the S.C. Kringle & Co. department store guarded by GBL nutcrackers and CandyCorn Commons, featuring 10 varieties of candy corn, are going to be added to the village, and a transparent area for visitors to walk underneath will be built, according to the NY Hall of Science.
It will get a new format and be circular in shape. It is expected to be made with 3,000 pounds of icing, 600 pounds of candy from 14 countries and 600 pounds of gingerbread dough.
The reinvented village will be open to the public from Nov. 14 to Jan. 11. The village’s creator, Jon Lovitch, will give away all the houses in the village on the last day of the exhibit.
GingerBread Lane was acknowledged as the largest gingerbread village in the world by the 2014 Guinness World Records. The new village is once again going to contend for a world record.
