Woodside armored truck robbers grab $1 million

By Dustin Brown

Two robbers stole $1 million from an armored truck in Woodside last Thursday after tying up the guards and hijacking the vehicle for two blocks, police said.

The male suspects approached two guards from the truck at 10:15 a.m. as they were leaving Prontos Envios, a money wiring and telephone business at 47th Avenue and 46th Street.

They forced the two guards into the back of the truck, where they advised them not to turn around as their hands were tied together with rope, police said.

The robbers stripped the driver of his weapon and forced him to move the truck two blocks to the corner of 45th Street and Greenpoint Avenue, police said.

The suspects then made off with $1 million in cash, police said.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

The truck was operated by Long Island City-based Coin Devices Corp., which supplies cash to automated teller machines.
