KEW GARDENS — A New Rochelle man who tried to scam rapper Lil’ Kim by saying he knew where to find her $250,000 necklace stolen at JFK was sentenced last week to a $500 fine and five days time served in jail.
John Acheson, 31, pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny, a misdemeanor, in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens March 3. Judge Stephen Knopf imposed the fine and the time served on Acheson, a spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney said.
Acheson faced up to four years in prison if he had been convicted of the original extortion and larceny charges against him.
Acheson called Lil’ Kim’s lawyer three days after the diva lost her signature diamond encrusted “Queen Bee” necklace and other jewelry when she checked her jewelry case on a United Airlines flight out of Kennedy Airport in June. The jewelry was later found, and Acheson was not believed to have been involved in the theft.
Acheson called Kim’s lawyer demanding $25,000 in exchange for returning the necklace, but later turned himself in to the police.
FOREST HILLS — A woman in her 30s robbed a bank at 107-18 71st Ave. Friday afternoon, police said. The unidentified robber fled with $50 after passing a note to a teller demanding money, cops said. There were no arrests made in the ongoing investigation, authorities said.
CORONA — A 42-year-old man was shot once in the leg after an unidentified man tried to rob a store Friday night at 107-02 37th Ave., cops said. The suspect struggled with the victim, shot him and then fled with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center and listed in stable condition, authorities said. The investigation was ongoing.
MANHATTAN — A 66-year-old Woodside man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with two failed bank robbery attempts earlier that day, police said.
Paul Berger, of 47-05 45th St., allegedly tried to rob an HSBC bank at 1350 Broadway before going to Sterling National Bank at 512 7th Ave. but was denied cash by the banks’ tellers, police said. He has been charged with attempted bank robbery.
FOREST HILLS — A 39-year-old man was found dead inside his home early Wednesday morning, police said.
Police identified Steven Ching, of 67-46 Austin St., who was found dead by a family member. There were no signs of criminality and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
RICHMOND HILL — An unidentified man was stabbed four times but not killed outside 121-08 Jamaica Ave. early Sunday morning, police said. The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital and listed in critical condition following the incident, which occurred after a dispute, cops said. No one has been arrested in the ongoing investigation.
OZONE PARK — A 16-year-old youth was arrested and charged in connection with the Sunday night shooting of a 38-year-old man at the corner of 113th Street and 101st Avenue, police said.
Authorities charged the teenager with attempted robbery and assault in connection with the shooting of the unidentified victim, who sustained injuries to his hand and stomach, cops said.
ROCKAWAY — A 46-year-old man was found dead with a stab wound to his stomach inside Apartment 4R at 78-00 Short Front Pkwy. March 3, police said. There have been no arrests in the ongoing investigation, cops said.
