Decision Nears For Municipal Lot 1

Councilman John Liu has told The Queens Courier that he has thrown his support behind one of the plans for Flushing’s Municipal Lot No. 1.
Liu said he believed the plans put forth by the TDC-Rockefeller Group were the “most dynamic and most spectacular out of three finalists, whose proposals are each dynamic and spectacular.”
The other two companies up for the bid are Vornado Trust Realty and Silvercup Studios.
The finalists were culled from 13 proposals more than one year ago to develop the site at Union and 138th Streets between 37th and 39th Avenues. All three plans call for retail, parking and common areas such as a youth center.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation said they believed a decision would be made very soon — probably within two weeks.
