Katrina Victims: How You Can Help

Hurricane Katrina has affected millions of Americans and is very likely the most devastating natural disaster in our country’s history.
Various charities have pledged to aid the victims of this terrrible tragedy through financial and emotional support.
To help get the victims of Hurricane Katrina back onto their feet, the following fundraisers and relief funds have been organized both locally and nationally:
LOCALLY:
The Inn At Great Neck is hosting a fundraiser Thursday, Sept. 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Adria Hotel & Conference Center, 221-15 Northern Blvd., Bayside. The cost is $85 per person; includes full buffet, open bar and auction. Proceeds will be donated to Operation USA, a non-profit organization raising funds for the hurricane relief efforts. The Bayside Business Association is hosting their 8th annual golf classic on Monday, Sept. 12th at the North Shore Towers Country Club. Proceeds will benefit both the St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital and the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. To attend or donate call 718-229-2277.
The North Fork Theatre at Westbury is teaming up with Tommy Hilfiger Jones Beach Amphitheatre to raise funds for the American Red Cross relief effort. The campaign began Saturday, Sept. 3rd. Patrons are encouraged to donate for those devastated by the hurricane. To donate visit www.stormaid.com.
The North Shore Animal League America is collecting donations to help fund the rescue and medical treatment of abandoned animals in the Gulf Coast area. To donate call 877-4SAVEAPET or call 516-883-7900 ext. 833 for more information.
