Ferrer Campaign Knows When To Fold ‘Em

Less than two hours after the polls closed on Election night, Democratic Mayoral Candidate Fernando Ferrer realized that his bid to become the next mayor of New York City came up short and conceded the race to incumbent Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Ferrer addressed his supporters just after 10:30 p.m. from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, first congratulating the other Democrats who won their races, then thanking all of the people who supported him during his campaign before he conceded the election to Bloomberg.
“I’m so proud to be here tonight,” Ferrer said. “I’m so proud to enjoy the support of all of you.”
Going into Election Day, Ferrer trailed by double digits in every major poll, but his campaign would not give into the numbers and did everything possible to get his voting base to the polls.
However, the effort was not enough to overcome such a large deficit. Ferrer was proud of the campaign he ran, saying he was the “luckiest man in New York” as he addressed his supporters Tuesday night.
“I’m so proud to care about all the things we care about and to fight for the things we fought for,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Ferrer woke up early to cast his vote at Francis Sherview Home and Hospital in the Riverdale section of the Bronx where he was accompanied by his daughter and grandchildren.
