For the past 30 years, the Forest Hills Community House has been an active part of the community by assisting many of its residents in need.
The Forest Hills Community House was founded in 1974 following Mayor John Lindsay's attempt to create a housing project in the area. After opposition, a smaller plan was made, which included the community house.
After 30 years of service to the borough, the center has grown to have an annual budget of $8.5 million with close to 400 employees serving the more than 20,000 people it aids. Its goal is “to assist, strengthen and help improve the quality of the life of the individuals, families and communities” in Queens.
Some of the services of the Forest Hills Community House include holding English classes, providing immigration services, an after school program, along with many other youth, senior and community programs.
The Forest Hills Community House is located at 108-25 62nd Drive. For more information on its services or on how to get involved, visit www.fhch.org or call (718) 592-5757.
