Deserving Couple Wins Dream Wedding

The grand prize winners of the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel/El Correo de Queens $40,000 dream wedding giveaway are Martha Mora and Carlos Martinez of Woodhaven.
The couple got engaged last year, but their joy was quickly eclipsed by family tragedy. Mora’s brother was killed on the morning of October 16, 2005, and immediately she regretted not informing him of the happy news.
“I felt that nothing would ever be the same again,” said Mora. “But my fianc/ Carlos has been there for me through thick and thin. Through this tragedy Carlos has been by my side and we have grown closer still.”
The couple had been putting money away for their wedding, but instead had to use it for the funeral.
They then decided to enter the contest.
“The minute I met them and started talking to them, I knew they were the couple,” said Chris Ficalora, General Manager of the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel in Flushing, which is hosting the wedding at no charge to the couple. “You can definitely see they are in love with each other and they are friends as well.”
“I feel a personal connection with the couple and will tailor the wedding to suite their needs,” continued Ficalora.
The Mora-Martinez wedding will be held on June 17 at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel.
In addition to the nuptials, Ficalora will also help the couple get special rates for their honeymoon too.
