“The answer to my prayers…”
BY MELISSA HENDRICKS
Annette Pressley spent most of her adult life struggling with her weight. Prior to entering the Queens Biggest Losers Contest she was even considering undergoing gastric bypass surgery like so many others who struggle time and time again with weight loss issues.
“I struggled with my weight since my mid-20’s and wanted to change my life. I was never thin. I thought surgery was the only answer,” said Pressley.
Pressley is a Patient Care Associate at St. John’s Hospital and is aware of the risks involved in weight loss surgery.
The contest has given Annette a second lease on life. She has the tools now to help her carry on her life as a healthier individual. She now knows how to exercise, when to exercise, what to eat and what healthy living is all about.
“The contest was really the answer to all my prayers,” Pressley added. “It has given me that extra push to work hard for myself and be more health conscious.”
Pressley works out at Bally Total Fitness in Kew Gardens every week with her trainer Tyrone. She visits with her nutritionist at New York Hospital Queens weekly to manage and maintain her eating habits.
“Tyrone is great. He motivates me. “Not only do we work out in the gym, he calls me regularly to make sure I am doing what I am supposed to.”
Pressley has lost a total of 6.5lbs. and 2.0% body fat. Family and friends are already noticing a change in her physically and mentally. Exercise and eating right has become a very important part of her everyday life. Her progress, although slow coming, is in fact a positive step in the right direction.
“I may be losing weight slower than the other contestants but in the end I feel I will come out a better person,” she said. “I am doing this for me and no one else.”
Each of our contestants is doing a wonderful job of staying strong and focused on their goals. We wish you all the best of luck in your journey towards a thinner, happier, and healthier tomorrow.
