Local funeral home pLans to stay!

In recent years, a number of New York area family-owned funeral homes have taken a cue from the HBO series “Six Feet Under” and sold their businesses to international funeral home corporations with headquarters in Vancouver, Canada and Houston, Texas. Since then, several of these corporately operated funeral homes have been closed.
One locally-owned and operated funeral business, Simonson Funeral Home, is implementing a long-term plan that will allow them to better serve the community of Richmond Hill and the surrounding areas.
According to John Sommese, Vice President of Simonson Funeral Home, “As many of the older Richmond Hill residents are retiring outside the Richmond Hill area, the population is actually becoming younger. As such, we felt the time had come to move our business to a new, more modern location.”
“Simonson Funeral Home has been the center of our lives for over 40 years. Selling the well-known facility and moving the business to another address is the most difficult decision we have ever made, but I know it is necessary.”
“Today’s Richmond Hill families have different expectations of funeral service providers versus when our current facility was developed for its present use in 1887. Today some families prefer facilities that allow them more options to personalize the memorial services as opposed to a formal religious setting.”
