Clearview Golf Course gets $4 M fix-up

The Clearview Golf Course has undergone almost $1 million in course and landscape improvements, and a $3 million Clubhouse renovation is nearing an early fall completion as part of $24 million in renovations currently underway at six golf courses throughout the five boroughs, funded by a grant from American Golf Corporation.
Just in time for the 2006 U.S. Open Championships, beginning on June 15th in Mamaroneck, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe, American Golf Corporation Vice President of Operations John Woodeshick, and City Parks Foundation Executive Director David Rivel met at Pelham Bay Golf Course in the Bronx to announce the upgrades that will also take place at the Pelham Golf Course and Split Rock Golf Course in the Bronx, Dyker Beach Golf Course in Brooklyn, and South Shore Golf Course and the La Tourette Golf Course on Staten Island.
“The commitment American Golf has made to the improvement of six of our City courses further guarantees that golf enthusiasts from all over the world can find their dream course right here in New York City,” said Commissioner Adrian Benepe.
Additionally, the improvements to these six golf courses are a portion of the $45 million in total renovations that have or will soon take place at various courses throughout the City. Upon completion, Douglaston Golf Course in Queens, which is operated by Douglaston Golf, LLC, will have received more than $5 million worth of improvements to its snack bar, pro shop, course and landscape, and restaurant.
Many of the City’s public golf courses are also utilized by the City Parks Foundation’s CityParks Golf program, which enables kids, ages 4 -16, to learn golf through free instruction and use of equipment in parks throughout the five boroughs. Through CityParks Golf, kids have the opportunity to play for free at driving ranges and public golf courses as they become more experienced.
“Kids across New York City are invited to join us in neighborhood parks and public golf courses this summer, for free golf instruction all season long in the five boroughs,” said David Rivel, Executive Director of City Parks Foundation.
