Lucy C. Nunziato, President of the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts and a community activist, passed away on October 27 following an illness.

“My family and I are deeply saddened,” said Councilmember Eric Gioia, a cousin. &#8220Lucy brought inspiration to us all and was truly a joy to be around. She will forever be in our thoughts and prayers.”
President of the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts at historic Flushing Town Hall since September 2002, she also served as executive vice president of the Queens Chamber of Commerce after a long tenure with the Long Island Savings Bank, FSB.
Nunziato’s other professional and civic affiliations included serving on the boards of American Red Cross, Alliance of Queens Artists, Long Island City YMCA, Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts, and the Queens Historical Society.
&#8220Lucy was a very kind, sweet and giving person,” said Sophia Ganosis, executive assistant for the Queens Chamber of Commerce.
Ganosis, who knew Nunziato for 15 years, went on to say, &#8220The most important thing about Lucy was her selflessness - that's why she participated in so many philanthropic and not-for-profit organizations.”
Nunziato also represented the interests of Queens business on the Queens District Attorney’s Business Advisory Council, the Verizon Communications Advisory Council, Con Edison’s Small Business Advisory Council, and the committee to Promote Public Trust and Confidence in the Legal System.
Over the years, Nunziato also volunteered her time to help various charities and was recognized as a New York Newsday &#8220Home Town Hero.”
She was named a Queens County Woman of Distinction by New York State Senator Serphin R. Maltese and a Top 10 Woman in Business by The Queens Courier in 2004.
Nunziato is survived by brothers, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements were handled by the Hillebrand Funeral Home. A Mass was held at St. Sebastian’s Church.
