Brothers all wet in robbery attempt

Two Broad Channel brothers’ plan to rob a local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) hall ended up all wet when one took refuge in Jamaica Bay on Saturday, December 2, trying to evade capture, police said.
Responding to a 9-1-1 call, police from the 100th Precinct arrived at the VFW hall located at 710 Shad Creek Road to find Anthony Dunn, 21, standing outside an open window through which, Christopher Dunn, 16, had thrown liquor bottles and a camera, according to court documents.
Upon seeing the police, Anthony dropped the bottles and camera and jumped into Jamaica Bay where he attempted to hide, court documents revealed. Police arrested Christopher inside the building.
A police helicopter canvassed the area near 11th Road and Cross Bay Boulevard in an attempt to locate Anthony, who was discovered lying in the marsh. Two divers from the NYPD Scuba unit jumped from the helicopter into the marsh where they arrested Anthony.
According to a local resident who went to the scene after hearing the police helicopter flying overhead, this incident was not the first run-in with the law for Anthony. &#8220These two kids are the local scoundrels, they’ve been arrested before,” Harry McMahon said, noting that they have a knack for getting caught (officials at Family Court, which handles juvenile cases, could not confirm that Christopher had prior arrests).
&#8220They should write the book on how not to rob something,” he said.
The two brothers, who reside at 32 West 10th Road, were both charged with burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, criminal mischief, petit larceny and possession of stolen property. Additionally, Anthony was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Christopher, whom police said flailed his arms in an attempt not to be handcuffed, was also charged with resisting arrest.
If found guilty the brothers will face up to seven years in prison, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.
In an unrelated case, Anthony is scheduled to appear before the Queens Criminal Court on January 23 for allegedly assaulting two men with wooden sticks in April 2006. According to court documents, both men suffered bruises and lacerations to the head and one was admitted to a local hospital with a fractured skull.
