The Queens Historical Society will proudly present, “Maple Grove Cemetery Lecture with Authors Nancy Cataldi and Carl Ballenas.” Hosted at the Kingsland Homestead, located at 143-35 37th Avenue in Flushing, the lecture on Saturday, February 17, will focus on the unique history of Maple Grove Cemetery.
Amid the harsh confines of the city, Maple Grove Cemetery stands as a relic containing extraordinary monuments, lush landscaping and interesting graves. Having been placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, the tranquil atmosphere of the rural Victorian cemetery houses, historical figures, from slaves and missionaries to pioneers in radio and broadcast.
Nancy Cataldi and Carl Ballenas, authors of the new book, “Maple Grove Cemetery,” will be presenting the lecture.
Beginning at 2:30 p.m., the culturally rich lecture is free of charge with paid admission to the homestead, which is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors and students. Off the street parking is available in the municipal lot at 37th Avenue and Union Street. Seating is limited.
