Peralta distributes 300 winter coats

Hundreds of Corona residents lined up last week to receive winter coats handed out by Assemblymember Jose Peralta. On Thursday, January 25, Peralta gave out more than 300 coats to local parents and children, including 2-year-old Eiui and 3-year-old Vanessa Gonzalez who huddled with caretaker Asuncion Ruiz outside the Corona-Elmhurst Center for Economic Development.
Peralta estimated that for an adequate winter coat, local residents would have to spend $80, about 10 percent of a person’s monthly income who makes $200 per week. “We are trying to spread the word so that those who are most in need receive suitable clothing for the coming winter months,” he said.
Peralta hoped that the coats, which had been donated by HEALTHPLUS and Robert Nemeroff from Melrose Credit Union, would protect the families from the icy winter, weather and hypothermia.
