Come polish your résumé says HACE

It’s all about presentation.
That’s the challenge for job seekers and the subject of an upcoming series of free workshops sponsored by the highly respected Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) Chicago-based non-profit organization.
It’s the first time the group - which is gearing up for its annual career conference on May 3 - has offered the résumé-honing classes in the city.
The Career Awareness and Résumé Workshop is scheduled in Queens on Monday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Queensborough Community College, 222-05 56th Avenue, Bayside.
The Daily News is the exclusive media partner for the conference.
The free workshops are designed to prepare job seekers to hit the Thursday, May 3 conference at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center ready to interview with blue-chip companies, nonprofits and government agencies.
The conference also marks the first time HACE has invited college seniors to participate. Students are expected from various City University of New York campuses as well as from Rutgers and New York University.
HACE’s conference also has become a prized recruiting venue for companies seeking a diverse pool of talent, advocates said.
“Latinos don’t follow the typical mode of looking for jobs by going directly to companies,” said Luz Canino-Baker, a HACE managing director.
“They tend to speak to friends and family, you know, ‘What have you heard about this company?’ So it’s more challenging for organizations to tap into the Latino population.”
HACE which also holds conferences in Miami, Houston and, beginning in September, Los Angeles, focuses on finding jobs for college graduates, both at entry-level and mid-career levels.
At the conference, ITT, a White Plains, N.Y.-based multinational corporation, will be looking to fill current openings and to build relationships with the Latino community for the future, said Usha Wright, senior vice president for global workforce strategy.
“One of our internal commitments is that we build a workforce that mirrors the world in which we do business,” she said. “If you have the talent and the motivation, at companies like ITT there are no limitations.”
