Queens Zoo offers free Met tickets

Talk about a “two-fer!”
For the price of admission to the Queens Zoo in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Mother’s Day weekend, visitors can see the bears in spring training, and the Cubs at Shea the following Wednesday night.
The Wildlife Conservation Society, which operates the zoo, has announced that the first 30 visitors on both Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13, who ask about the special Mother’s day “Play Ball” promotion, will receive two free tickets to the Mets game versus the Chicago Cubs at Shea Stadium on May 16, at 7:10 p.m.
This is the time of year when the sea lions and spectacled bears at the zoo, located at 53-51 111th Street in Corona, are given “enrichment balls,” which stimulate their natural behavior. Queens is the only home in the city for these bears, which are native to the Andes Mountains of South America, and are endangered.
The staff will conduct educational chats with visitors about the importance of the spring training and enrichment on both days, at 11:15 a.m. for the sea lions and 1 p.m. for the bears, called “spectacled” because their face markings look like a mask or glasses.
The zoo, which is designed to feel like a mini-National Park, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and until 5:30 p.m. on weekends. Admission is $6 for adults, $2.25 for seniors 65 and over, $2 for children between 3 and 12 - kids under 2 get in free.
