Helping survivors of domestic violence

Councilmember Leroy Comrie recently arranged a special dinner for five families who are survivors of domestic violence at Humpy’s Bakery, Cafe and Restaurant in St. Albans.
“Thanks to the generosity of a local business owner, Royden Paul, owner of Humpy’s Restaurant, we were able to arrange a special dinner for these women and children,” Comrie said.
Joyce Skinner is Executive Director of Allen Women’s Resource Center which has been providing safe emergency housing for these families and 5,000 other families, all survivors of domestic violence, over the past 20 years. Skinner thanked Comrie for his support of domestic violence survivors.
Paul, who always dreamt of having his own restaurant, even when he was back home in Georgetown, Guyana, celebrated his first year anniversary of Humpy’s Bakery Cafe and Restaurant by providing dinner to domestic violence survivors.
