Sabini begins satellite office

program
BY PETE DAVIS
State Senator John Sabini is reinstituting a program to bring services directly to his constituents.
Throughout the summer, Sabini will run a &#8220satellite office” program where members of his staff will provide multilingual casework services on a variety of issues to neighborhood residents.
&#8220Sometimes people don’t realize that their elected officials can help them with various problems, or they don’t find it easy to visit an office,” Senator Sabini said. &#8220By bringing my staff directly to their neighborhoods, I’m better able to serve my constituents.”
Six months ago, longtime Jackson Heights resident Virginia Lott, 81, went into one of Sabini's satellite offices seeking help about a noisy, rude tenant living in the apartment above her, whom she had complained about many times to various authorities.
Lott said two of Sabini's staff members listened to her story, took down her information and within a month, the tenant was relocated from the apartment.
&#8220They were so sweet, and they were so nice,” Lott said, referring to two of Sabini's staff members. &#8220I felt like I was just resurrected and reborn. They saved my life.”
This year’s satellite office dates, which began in June, consist of two staff members going to senior citizen centers, libraries and other community gathering places in Sabini's districts and meeting with his constituents. Assistance will be available on-location in English, Spanish and Russian, with translation in other languages also available through Sabini's office.
&#8220People often call my office looking for help resolving a problem in their community, applying for a government benefit or dealing with a government agency,” Sabini said. &#8220By having my casework staff all over my district, I’ll be able to help even more children, parents and seniors with issues that make a difference in their lives.”
