Domestic Violence Month

As part of “National Domestic Violence Month,” Senator Frank Padavan is participating in a program partnered with Verizon Wireless to collect used cell phones that will help victims of domestic violence.
Padavan’s district offices, located in Bellerose and Whitestone, give all of the cell phones donated to Verizon Wireless’ phone recycling program, HopeLine, which provides used cell phones to domestic violence prevention organizations.
Padavan is sponsoring this program for the first time and his office said that the issue of domestic violence is a concern in the community.
“Protecting victims of domestic violence is one of my top priorities. Earlier this year, my Senate colleagues and I passed legislation that strengthens existing law combating domestic violence,” Padavan said. “While legislation is important, doing all we can here at home, throughout our community, to increase awareness about domestic violence is essential. Residents can donate cell phones, batteries and other cell phone accessories to Padavan’s district offices located at 89-39 Gettysburg Street in Bellerose and 150-26 14th Avenue in Whitestone.
“National Domestic Violence Month,” takes place throughout October, but Padavan’s office will accept cell phone donations until Wednesday, November 14.
