Driver fails passing

The driver of this mini-van apparently thought it would be a good idea to pass the school bus on the right, while headed westbound on Northern Boulevard recently.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported on the bus, which had been transporting handicapped children to P.S. 811 in Little Neck and was preparing to turn into the parking lot of the golf driving range on Monday morning, January 28.
The speed limit is 40 miles per hour on that stretch of road, and local residents complain that people headed for the Cross Island Parkway go a lot faster.
“He was flying,” a witness said of the errant mini-van, which peeled back the front bumper of the bus as it careened onto the sidewalk, coming to rest on decorative boulders and shrubbery.
