The hospital announced last week that it has installed a new 64-slice CT scanner, allowing for faster and more accurate scans. The new system can perform a head scan in less than four seconds and a chest scan under 10 seconds, according to Russell Smith, administrator for the hospital's radiology department.”The scanner has the ability to perform much more complex imaging examinations and will provide tremendous benefits to our patients,” Smith said in a statement.The scanner's speed also minimizes motion, which creates clearer images for analysis. The software associated with the scanner is also cutting-edge, as it produces pictures in 3-D and allows quicker manipulation of images and data.”There was a great need for this machine in the Radiology Department,” Smith said. “We were using a much older scanner and facing many challenges that are now eliminated with the use of this state-of-the art equipment.”Smith added that the machine would be used to help the Cardiology Department provide images of coronary vessels.
