Celebrating music of Scott Joplin

St. Michael’s Cemetery held a special concert to celebrate the music of Scott Joplin on Saturday, May 17. Renowned pianist Richard Dowling and collector Randolph Herr presented ragtime favorites and demonstrations.
In addition, family members of Joplin’s band were in attendance to relate stories of their exploits and minstrel past. The Presbyterian Church of St. Albans Chorus and soloists offered highlights from Joplin’s opera “Treemonesha.”
Additionally, celebrated author Dr. Ed Berlin presented a PowerPoint display detailing the life, times and music of Joplin that made him a household name.
Joplin was buried at the cemetery on April 5, 1917.
