Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and former Borough President Claire Shulman championed the city's decision to move forward with a plan to transform Willets Point into a community of retail establishments, a convention center and housing last Thursday.
Shulman, chairwoman of the Flushing/Willets Point /Corona Local Development Corp., proclaimed on the steps of City Hall that “the time for redevelopment at Willets Point is long past due.”
Last week the New York City Economic Development Corporation presented the City Planning Council with its Environmental Impact Statement, officially kick-starting the public approval process for its plan to reinvent the area to include more than 5,000 housing units, a 400,000-square-foot convention center and more than a million square feet of retail and office space.
