The Queens Tourism Council, with the support of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, has launched a discount program to some of the borough’s most celebrated attractions, called “Summer’s Hot in Queens!”
From now until mid-October, visitors get special savings just for showing their MetroCard when they purchase tickets. Borough President Helen Marshall, a supporter of the promotion, sang its praises, saying “take advantage of these discounts and Discover Queens! Summer’s hot in Queens, but we’re still cool!”
At the New York Hall of Science and the Queens Zoo in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, one paying adult admission gets one child admission free, until Sunday, August 31. Both sites are near the 111th Street side of the park, in Corona.
The Sculpture Center is offering two-for-one admission until August 31. The group, founded by artists in 1928, occupies a former trolley repair shop at 44-19 Purves Street (off Jackson Avenue) in Long Island City. It’s open Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
City landmark, Flushing Town Hall, also a benefactor of the program, is offering a $5 discount on its “Queens Jazz Trail Tour,” which takes riders to the Louis Armstrong House Museum, and other musically hallowed sites.
Queens Theatre in the Park is offering $5 off tickets to such hot shows as: “Noche Flamenca” on Sunday, July 27 at 8 p.m.; Ruben Rada on Sunday, August 3, at 7 and 10 p.m. and “Tango Connection” on Saturday, October 18 at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 at 3 p.m.
The Alley Pond Environmental Center in Douglaston is offering a free commemorative gift with admission for those taking advantage of the program.
In addition to Marshall and Flushing Town Hall, support for “Summer’s Hot in Queens!” is provided by the NYC & Company Foundation and the Queens Economic Development Corporation.
