Students at the Virgil I. Grissom Middle School participated in a variety of community service learning activities this past year, including entertaining seniors at the Trump Pavilion Nursing Home in Jamaica and communication via email and sending care packages to troops in the 401 Battalion in Iraq. Sergeant Robert Premus of Howard Beach, who marched in the Howard Beach Memorial Day parade, assisted in distributing the articles.
On Sunday, June 22, the Grissom Angels of Middle School 226Q — along with parents, teachers and friends — joined in the Walk Now for Autism at the South Street Seaport (pictured). In addition to contributing $250 to Autism Speaks, the efforts of the Grissom Angels team raised $5000. The students have decided to participate in the Walk each year.
