Women for Hire hosting career expo

Women for Hire is hosting their free Career Expo on Tuesday, November 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Manhattan Center, located at 311 West 34th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.
The event will include free resume critiquing and will give candidates a chance to meet with top employers from more than 40 companies. Resumes and business attire is required.
Since 1999, more than 1,500 women have attended each of the Women for Hire Career Expos in New York. In addition to nine other cities, events are hosted twice a year in Manhattan during the spring and fall recruiting seasons. There have been thousands of success stories since the first expo in 1999 and women who get hired by employers at the events even meet other women who help support their success.
The most successful attendees come with a plan and have done their homework. They know something about the participating employers and they’re ready to impress them. “In the nine years since doing these events, this season is the worst I’ve seen it in terms of the economic toll on the city. There’s more panic and desperation among jobseekers…and maintaining confidence is a big part of the battle,” said Johnson.
In the workplace, Women for Hire CEO Tory Johnson explains, “The reality is that women are behind in both compensation and leadership.” These events give women the opportunity to face decision makers and put a face to their resume. “The most frustrating aspect of the recruiting process today is that everything must be done online, which makes it so impersonal.” The career expo also gives women the chance to window shop, to see who is hiring and what is out there.
Join Women for Hire CEO and ABC’s Good Morning America Workplace Contributor Tory Johnson for a coffee and career advice seminar at 8:30 a.m. before the expo begins. In the Early Morning Seminar, Johnson shares her input on finding the right position, talks candidly about lessons learned from her own career challenges and warns of the pitfalls and problems she sees women face every day.
