Lice can thrive in winter too

While most parents think “back to school time” is peak lice season, school nurses are still sending home these notices even as we enter the late fall and winter.
It makes sense that infestations occur frequently during the chilly days of fall and winter, when millions of children share and toss around hats, gloves and scarves.
At the risk of sounding like someone’s mother, in the case of head lice, prevention really is the best cure.

How-To Prevent Head Lice
Sharing is Not Caring: Tell kids NOT to share hats, gloves, scarves, jackets or anything else that can transmit head lice. Be careful when leaving coats in cubbies or community closets.
Girls No-No’s: Sharing brushes, combs or hair accessories with friends and even siblings should be avoided. Girls should also be cautious when playing with dress up clothes at parties and play dates.
Boys No-No’s: Head-to-head contact is the quickest way to get head lice. Stay away from rough play such as wrestling.
Avoid Sweet Smelling hair products: Lice are attracted to sweet smelling shampoos and conditioners.
Neatness Counts: While it is a false rumor that clean hair attracts lice, car seats, couches and chairs where kids sit should be vacuumed frequently.
Another good way to prevent a lice attack is to use hair care products that are natural, safe and effective. The original lice prevention shampoo, from Fairy Tales Hair Care contains natural ingredients including organic oils of rosemary, tea tree, citronella and lavender - all which repel lice while leaving hair soft, clean and tangle-free.
In the event of an outbreak, the Lice Good-Bye Nit Removal system is a non-toxic, pesticide-free, enzyme-based mousse that is safe and effective and works with a thin grooved Terminator Metal Comb.
There’s no need to use toxic, harmful chemicals or expensive prescription lice formulas.
Today, lice infestations can be a major inconvenience, as the majority of schools require mandatory absences until the problem is absolved. Being vigilant is important, but more important is preventing the problem before it begins by using hair care products such as those provided by Fairy Tales.
