Toy drive for students

A team effort by the students and teachers of P.S. 22 and the Fo Guang Shan Chinese School has resulted in more than 100 new toys being collected to give out to children in the community.
The two Forest Hills schools collaborated during a toy drive this month. Toys were collected through December 19. That same day the children got together at the Buddha’s Light Int’l Association (BLIA)/Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple to wrap the presents, which were then distributed on December 22.
One reason for the toy drive was the thought that, because of the economy being bad, families would need to cut their budgets for the holiday season. Ku said that, along with bringing joy to the children by giving them toys, they want the children to see that the whole community is like a big family for them.
For the students who assisted with the collection, Ku said that it teaches them about caring for the community and doing work to improve it while showing them how to share their love with others.
“One beautiful dream needs a whole community’s support,” Ku said.
