LaGuardia program gets award

LaGuardia Community College’s Division of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) recently won two awards from an international association of lifelong learning programming for its overall marketing efforts and course catalog.
Learning Resource Network (LERN) chose ACE for the two awards after receiving 78 entries, four of which were from countries outside the United States.
According to Julie Coates, vice president of Information Services for LERN, this year’s award nominees were among the highest qualitative level ever submitted. She noted that the primary criterion used for selecting winning entries was the quality of “being at the leading edge of the field of lifelong learning.” The submissions were also judged on the following criteria: originality, innovation, and appropriateness as a model for other programs, ability to replicate, and measurable outcomes.
“The awards selection process is very competitive,” Coates said. “It is truly an honor to be selected.”
LaGuardia’s submissions were included in a showcase of internationally exemplary programs at the LERN Annual Convention in San Francisco, CA this past November.
“Both of these awards are reflective of the hard work ACE has put into its catalog and other marketing endeavors,” said Jane Schulman, vice president of ACE. “Through an effort to reach out to students and the Queens community in a personally meaningful and compelling manner, the division has been able to raise the overall college profile as well as increase enrollment in many of its programs and help students get closer to achieving their goals.”
In addition, the winning programs will be featured in future LERN publications and on LERN’s website. LERN is an international association that provides leadership, information, resources and technical assistance to lifelong learning programs.
ACE also received the Exemplary Marketing Plan Award from the Continuing Education Association of New York that same month.
