Officers assaulted

Police responded to 24-50 Collier Avenue on Thursday, January 15 on a call regarding an emotionally disturbed person.
While the officers were investigating, a 33-year-old man, identified in reports as Neil Perreira, stabbed a responding sergeant in the left eye and another officer in the hand. Both were taken to Jamaica Hospital. Perreira was taken into custody and taken to St. John’s Hospital for evaluation. He is charged with attempted murder, assault and weapons possession. He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
