DiResto off ballot in 32nd District race

On Friday, February 20, Glenn DiResto, the retired NYPD lieutenant vying for Senator Joseph Addabbo’s 32nd District City Council seat, learned that his name would not, in fact, appear on the ballots for the February 24 Special Election.
“It’s disappointing to say the least,” he told The Courier.
He had been removed from the ballot after the name he created for his party – in special elections candidates must create their own party – was found to be too similar to the Working Families Party by the Board of Elections (BOE).
He appealed in court on February 9, and was seemingly reinstated, though on February 20, the Appellate division upheld the BOE’s decision.
“Elections are supposed to be decided in the voting booth, not in the court,” said DiResto.
As for his political future, he said, “I will probably be back in the fall. I will play it by ear.”
In addition, when asked if he will be backing one of the four candidates – Geraldine Chapey, Lew Simon, Michael Ricatto or Eric Ulrich – DiResto said he will be considering it.
