Local theatres holding open auditions

In the theatre, when there’s an open audition – one where just about anybody with a photo and a resume can show up – they call it a “cattle call.” Here are some upcoming local calls.

The FSF Community Theatre Group of Flushing is calling for actors, singers, dancers and more than 16 stage crew for the musical comedy “Curtains,” book by Rupert Holmes, music by John Cander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

Auditions will be held at The Free Synagogue of Flushing, located at 41-60 Kissena Boulevard (at Sanford Avenue) on Tuesday June 2 and Wednesday June 3, at 7:30 p.m.

Theatre by the Bay, the community group of the Bay Terrace Jewish Center, is holding open auditions for their November production of “Carousel.” Rehearsals will begin in August.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bay Terrace Jewish Center, 13-00 209th Street in Bayside.

Actors, singers and dancers needed; adults, teenagers and children 9-years-and-older are wanted. Crew members are also needed.

The Broad Hollow Theatre in Elmont is holding open auditions for the musical, “Sweeney Todd,” to be performed from October 31, through November 15.

Auditions will be held at the theatre, 700 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, on Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. All parts are reportedly open, except Sweeney, Mrs. Lovett and Johanna. Actors are advised to bring 16 bars of music, headshot and resume.

Broad Hollow also holds auditions for “The Odd Couple” on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at the theatre. The show will run from August 29 through September 13. All parts are open except for the role of Felix. Actors should bring a headshot and resume.

The Teen Drama Club at Church of the Holy Child Jesus in Richmond Hill is calling for teenage cast for “The Pajama Game.”

The show will run four performances, from Thursday, August 13 through Sunday, August 16, in Monsignor Murray Auditorium, 111-02 86th Avenue.

Auditions are on Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.; callbacks June 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. – read-through on Thursday, June 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. Rehearsals Sunday through Thursday, from 7 to 10 p.m., starting June 28.
