Worker at JFK stole handgun from cop: DA

JAMAICA — A 21−year−old Jet Blue employee at John F. Kennedy International Airport was arrested after he allegedly stole a 9mm handgun that had been stored in a locked box by a police officer before she boarded a flight to Florida, the Queens district attorney said.

Tamarcus Hines, of 240−34 Weller Ave. in Rosedale, was charged with criminal possession of a stolen weapon, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief, Queens DA Richard Brown said. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison, he said.

The victim, a sergeant in the NYPD, had left her gun in a locked gun box at the airport before getting onto a flight to Orlando, the DA said. On April 22, the defendant allegedly broke into the box and stole the gun, as well as ammunition and a holster, the DA said.
