Lotto luck strikes again at Queens store

Lotto lady luck has struck again at a Queens store.

Shiv Convenience Store on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, which sold the winning $133 million Mega Millions ticket just last month, hit another winner – this time with a customer taking the Sunday, August 23, Take Five first prize of $66,053.

“The guy came in yesterday to my store and put the ticket in the machine, and it was the winner,” said Shiv Convenience Store manager Bharat Kumar Patel, on Tuesday morning, August 25. “I’m excited again.”

The winner, Mohammad Islam, a Popeye’s employee and his wife Kazi Khaleda Islam claimed their prize on Wednesday morning, and said they would use the money to save for their kid’s education.

Patel said Mohammad Islam plays New York Lottery’s Take Five almost every day at the store. The winning numbers were 8,10,25,31,36.

“He always does the Quick Pick,” Patel said. “He was very happy.”

Last month, Shiv Convenience Store sold the only winning ticket in the $133 million Mega Millions jackpot to MTA collections agent Aubrey Boyce, who took home about $54.7 million after taxes.

However, the two winning tickets in the span of seven weeks were not the only winners that Shiv Convenience has sold. Patel said the store sold another Take 5 winner for more than $70,000 last year.

Many customers came to the store on Tuesday to play the $252 million Mega Millions jackpot hoping that lighting would strike a third time. There were no winners in that drawing so Friday’s jackpot will be worth $325 million.
