Flushing man rear-ended car, killed woman: DA

A Flushing man was arrested after the van he was driving allegedly plowed into a parked car, which hit a mother of two attending a Newtown High School reunion in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Saturday, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

The woman, Paula Jimenez, 34, died over the weekend after being hospitalized with massive head injuries, police said.

Jian Feng He, 49, of Flushing was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, the DA said.

He allegedly was traveling upwards of 70 miles per hour when he entered the park, a 30-miles-per-hour zone, according to Brown. The Flushing resident’s van hit a parked Toyota Corolla at the edge of Flushing Meadows, which proceeded to crash into Jimenez, the DA said.

Jimenez had been at the park for a Newtown High School reunion. The high school is in Elmhurst.

Jimenez died at New York Hospital Queens, police said. She had lived in Virginia with her husband and two young girls, according to media reports.

He was arraigned over the weekend and ordered held on $150,000 bail.
