Koslowitz wins in District 29 Council race
The Democratic primary in District 29 of the City Council proved to be a close one, with Karen Koslowitz, who has previously served on the council, winning by a few hundred votes and receiving 26 percent of the vote.
“Karen is gratified at the faith the voters had today and she looks forward to serving in the City Council where she served with distinction,” said campaign spokesperson Joe Reubens. He added that Koslowitz would be a strong voice for better schools, access to quality health care and an improved quality of life for all families in Queens.
In a prior interview, Koslowitz said, “I have a real record for achievement, and have consistently stood up for the community.”
Koslowitz was followed closely by Lynn Shulman, who received 22 percent of the votes. Both also ran unopposed in primaries for other parties, Koslowitz for the Independence Party and Shulman for Working Families.
A total of six candidates ran in the Democratic primary.
Also in District 29, Bartholomew Bruno was the only candidate in the GOP primary.
Two major issues that Koslowitz said are facing the community are quality of life and expanding economic opportunities. She said that, by having safe and clean communities, economic investments and employment opportunities would be encouraged.
Education and quality of life are the first issues that Koslowitz would address as a Councilmember.
“Queens should be a place where families want to raise their children, send them to school and live fulfilling lives,” Koslowitz said. She also said, “I intend to keep standing up for our families every day.”
