LIC Hotel collecting supplies for Haiti

The people of Haiti desperately need immediate help and Queens Courier readers can assist by donating badly needed items at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Long Island City.

The hotel is collecting various items for donation to the earthquake-ravaged nation. Medical supplies, blankets and nutrition bars will be sent out this Friday, January 22.

Other items set for immediate distribution include paper plates, cups, plastic utensils, napkins, cooking pots, individual bottles of water, pads, pencils, notebooks, masks, plastic gloves, blankets, sheets and pillow cases.

“People in temporary camps need to eat, but they don’t have utensils or pots and pans or anything,” said Nitza P. Pean, general Manager of Fairfield Inn who is of Haitian descent. “These are the most needed items along with the medical supplies.”

Concerned Queens residents can also give their monetary donations to Fairfield Inn, preferably in the form of a check made out to the Yele Organization. Upon donating to the Fairfield Inn, the hotel will give you a certified letter stating the nature of your charitable donation and to where it is going.

Clothing donations, used or new, given to the Fairfield Inn will be sent to a Yele Organization warehouse in South Orange, New Jersey for staggered distribution.

All donations should be brought to the hotel’s front desk and can be dropped off 24-hours-a-day.

If you cannot make it to the Fairfield Inn in Long Island City, email info@yele.org and tell them your location and what you want to donate. They will reply back with the nearest drop-off location.
