Maxxel’s serves American cuisine at its best

When I entered Maxxels, in a small strip mall on busy Jericho Turnpike, I was immediately taken by the beautiful environment enhanced by bookcases filled with gorgeous, colorful glass vases and figurines. I felt like I was in a restaurant in Venice surrounded by beautiful Murano glassware.

The owner also found a talented photographer who created bold, large photos of one model in different settings and costumes that were all startlingly beautiful. The warm orange walls and well-spaced tables and banquettes add to Maxxels inviting ambiance.

We sat at the handsome bar to enjoy a drink before dinner. On the bar are crackers and I planned to eat just one but they were so delicious that I took another and then one more and . . . you get the picture. One of my guests finished the whole bowl before dinner. So beware you leave room for the delicious meal to come.

We were led to our table by our gracious host, owner Carmelo Sapuppo. Our menu and friendly waiter suggested we try the specialties. We began the meal with appetizers. My husband had his favorite, sliced tomatoes with mozzarella cheese, which was a tasty delight. I had a tossed salad with crisp, crunchy greens.

Along with the American dishes are some Italian and French influenced selections. Stu tried the well-executed pumpkin ravioli in a tasty brown butter sauce. I had my favorite, all American, perfectly cooked roast chicken that was buttery soft with a crispy skin. It was accompanied by a bevy of tasty vegetables. The price points were moderate and everything we ate was well prepared and beautifully presented.

Dessert is as all-American as you can get. We had a luscious banana split ice cream sundae. There are pies as well, but nothing beats a great sundae.

There is an attractive private space that is perfect for parties. Make this a must go on your list of restaurants. You will not be disappointed. Try it – you will love it!
