You may qualify for a tax credit

With April 15 – tax day – right around the corner, City Councilmember Eric Ulrich wants to remind Queens taxpayers about a potential tax credit that could reimburse some families thousands of dollars.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a tax break for working individuals and families that meet the proper salary requirements. Ulrich’s office is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to promote the tax credit within Queens.

“In tough times like these, my constituents need to know that help is available,” said Ulrich. “I encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit to apply.”

Eligibility for the credit is dependent on several factors, including marital status, whether a married couple is filing jointly, as well as the number of children in a family.

The maximum credit, for a family with three or more children, is $5,657. For families with no children, the minimum credit is $457.

For those who intend to claim the tax credit, there will be several locations in the area offering free tax preparation, including several area libraries.
